The Eyes Have It

Am I the only one who is smokey eye challanged?  I have watched You Tube videos ad nauseum, and no matter how I try, cannot get my smokey eye to look right.  I mean, it looks okay, but I want it to look great.  Like this

I know I am totally out of the loop, because I am just now eyeing the Naked palette from Urban Decay, but not sure I want to splurge $50 for it just yet. Plus I have similar colors in my makeup arsenal, but its so pretty and friends swear by it. Hoping it will stay in stock until I buy it on Friday make up my mind.
